Sergio Ita was born and raised in the beautiful mountains of Santa Fe, New Mexico. After completing high school Sergio entered the service with the United States Marine Corp, training as an avionics technician and serving in Operation Iraqi Freedom. Upon completion of his enlistment Sergio began his undergraduate studies majoring in biology. After earning a Bachelors of Science from California State University San Macros, Sergio began his graduate studies in the fall of 2009 when he joined the Virology program at Harvard Medical School. He is currently investigating SIV envelope escape mutations that lead to resistance to neutralizing antibody responses in rhesus macaques. When Sergio is not in the lab he enjoys all of his free time with his wife, April, and three awesome children: Ava, Amaya, and Santiago!
