[edit] Overview
SimSolexa is an Illumina (Solexa) synthetic data set creation tool using the empirical error profile from Solexa reads while simulating SNPs and sequencing errors.
SimSolexa is written in C++ with multiple platforms in mind. Compiled versions are currently available for Microsoft Windows, Apple OS X (Intel), and Linux operating systems, but can be made available on different platforms upon request. The source code is also available for download.
This initial version was created by Michael Strömberg as an in-house tool to benchmark our aligner and assembler (Mosaik) as well as downstream SNP discovery applications (PolyBayes).
Future versions will include advanced support for structural variations and demographic models. This effort is being spearheaded by Weichun Huang.
