[edit] Weichun Huang, PhD

My research interests are primarily in the areas of Bioinformatics, Biostatistics and Statistics Genetics. My current research focuses on DNA polymorphism discovery for medical re-sequencing projects. I’m developing statistical methods and computational tools for automating SNP discovery on new generation sequencing technologies, such as 454 Pyrosequencing, Solexa/Illumina, and AB’s SOLiD.

[edit] Current Research Projects

  • Develop SNP discovery statistical methods and tools for 454 sequences
  • Discover SNPs in multiple species with 454 sequences, including macaque, pichia stipitis, mouse, and chimpanzee
  • Design and develop a cross-platform visualization tool for SNP discovery in new generation sequences (e.g. 454, Illumina).
  • Identify and map re-sequencable regions of genomes with short read sequencing technologies.
  • Develop computational methods and tools for polymorphism discovery on AB's (Applied Biosystems) next generation sequencing technology-SOLiD.

[edit] Other Interests

  • The standardization of short sequence read format
  • The standardization of genome assembly format

[edit] Software Download

  • EagleView — an information-rich genome assembly viewer
  • SNPsniffer — a SNP discovery tool for 454 sequences

I've also developed several other computational tools for sequence alignment, sequence motif finding, and Phylogenetic sequence simulation. These tools are freely available for download at my personal website.
